If You Meet Me Halfway
---
This is the story of a girl who took too long in the kitchen before answering the door, a boy who was too impatient to wait, a letter and their assumptions.
---
And she finally looked through the peephole and when she saw no one, she [assumed] that someone was playing a trick on her. Ring the door bell and run, it was not uncommon.
She took so long, that he [assumed] she wasnt home. So after ringing it once, and waiting for a few minutes, he knelt down, out of view of the peephole and tucked his heartfelt letter through the small opening under the door of her house.
And since she [assumed] it was all just a trick, when the door bell rang again, she didnt bother to even think about answering. She [assumed] it wouldve been a complete waste of her time to check.
He [assumed] that no one was home to answer the door and receive his letter. Especially when he rang the door bell again, twice, thrice, he [assumed] the house was empty, because he didnt want to face the possibility that she was home and just didnt want to see him.
What she didnt know was that it certainly wasnt a joke and that someone important had been kneeling in front of her door step that whole time. She was just too busy brooding over the possible reasons why he still hadnt shown up yet. Three more rings, she thought. Three more rings and shed check, but silence just followed her thoughts.
Little did he know that if he had stayed and rang probably around three more times, the door would open and hed find her tear-streaked face and realize she had been thinking of him. But he didnt, and gave up and [assumed] that she was going to find the letter soon enough and that shed call him and eventually, everything was going to be all right.
But she didnt bother to check, and [assumed] that if she left it alone, any unwanted door bell ringers would go away.
---
And a little while after they turned their backs, the letter that was pushed halfway under her door was pulled back outside and then blown away by the wind, leaving behind nothing but their broken hearts and their assumptions.
